A coffee shop chat with a client that changed how I handle project handoffs

I was meeting a new client at a spot in Austin last month, going over the final plans for his yard. Right before we signed, he said, 'You know, my last landscaper just sent a bill and vanished. I had a dozen questions about plant care.' That hit me. Now, I make a simple one-page care guide for every job, with watering times and my direct number. It only takes an extra 20 minutes. Do you guys have a set process for handing off projects to clients?

Ever have a client just totally ghost you after a big job? I had a guy hire me to build a custom bookshelf, paid in full, then he called me three months later mad because a door was sticking. He said he didn't want to bother me, but like, that's my job. Now I just send a quick text a week after I finish, asking if everything is working right. Catches small stuff before it turns into a big problem.
