Unpopular opinion: That negative client review actually fixed my proposal process

Last spring a client in Austin told me my agency's proposals were too vague and felt like a sales pitch. She said it clearly - 'I have no idea what I'm actually paying for here.' That feedback hurt honestly, but it made me rewrite every proposal to list specific deliverables with dollar amounts next to each one. Now I include a 3-line scope summary at the top and my close rate went up 30% in about 4 months. Has anyone else gotten useful criticism from a tough client?

Man that's rough but good on you for taking it to heart instead of just getting defensive... I had a client last year tell me my onboarding packet was overwhelming and too corporate sounding. Made me realize I was trying to sound like a big agency when really people just wanted clear bullet points. I cut the fluff and started adding a simple checklist of what happens week by week. Felt like a punch to the gut at first but honestly that feedback probably saved me from losing more clients down the road.

Put exact dollar amounts next to each line item and watch your close rate climb.
