Threw $3,000 at Facebook ads before I even had a landing page built
Spent 6 weeks getting zero conversions because I was so focused on traffic that I forgot people clicking had nowhere to land and nobody to answer their questions.

$3500 and a week of my life went into Facebook ads for a consulting course I was building. I had this fancy funnel, great targeting, but the landing page was just a "coming soon" message with a placeholder email form. People clicked, saw nothing, and bounced. I literally had to refund like 40 people because they signed up for the free webinar and had no idea it didn't exist yet. Learned the hard way that you gotta build the cart before you hitch the horse, lol. Now I always build the landing page and at least a basic autoresponder sequence before I spend a dime on ads.

My buddy ran into this exact thing last year with his lawn care lead gen. He spent a couple hundred on Google ads driving to a page that just had his phone number and a picture of a mower, no booking form or anything. People called, he was too busy to answer, and he never called anyone back for like three days. Lost a whole summer of leads and ended up just turning the ads off.
