Thought the $500 retainer model was a gimmick until I tried it myself

Last year I had a client paying $3k per project but every project took 4 months and they kept adding scope. I pitched a $2k monthly retainer instead, thinking they'd say no. To my surprise they agreed within a week. Now I have 4 retainer clients bringing in $8k a month steady. The predictability is way better than chasing new projects every quarter. Has anyone else made the switch from project work to retainers and seen their cash flow smooth out?

Forty bucks on a 12 to 1 underdog and they pulled it off in the last minute. That kind of luck doesn't come around often. I've been watching this team all season and they finally got their act together for once. The defense actually showed up and the quarterback didn't throw three picks for a change. Must feel good to cash in on something you believed in when everyone else counted them out.
