Pro tip: Don't pay for a 'done for you' lead gen service without checking their list first

Honestly, I dropped $2,500 on one of those services that promised 20 qualified sales calls a month. Tbh, the leads were awful, mostly people who had no budget or weren't even looking for an agency. I lost that money and wasted two months of my sales guy's time chasing ghosts. Has anyone found a legit way to buy leads that doesn't feel like a total scam?

Ask for a small sample list first.

Totally get that, it's like a life rule now. I ask for a tiny sample of the soup before I get a whole bowl, or I'll listen to a 30 second clip before I buy a whole song. People try to sell you the whole thing upfront, but a little test run saves so much time and money. I even do it with big stuff, like watching a few minutes of a movie trailer to see if I'll like it.

Isn't buying the sample list itself kind of a gamble though? I've been burned before where the sample list was just the best stuff they had and the actual full list was mostly junk. In my experience, some sellers use that sample list like bait, and you end up paying for something that doesn't give you the real picture. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather trust a solid recommendation from someone I know than hand over cash for a teaser that might not mean anything. It's like buying a cheap appetizer only to find out the main course is terrible.
