Overheard an agency owner at a coffee shop say he stopped using retainer contracts
He said monthly retainers made his team lazy because the cash kept coming no matter what. Now he does project-based only and says it forces him to actually sell value every time. Has anyone else tried dropping retainers?

My old agency got complacent too once retainer cash was rolling in. Project based keeps you hungry for sure.
