I lost a $15k client because I missed one email

Last Tuesday I realized a big client hadn't replied to my proposal in 10 days. Turns out their follow-up email went to my spam folder and I never saw it. They signed with another agency the day before I checked. Now I check my spam folder every morning at 8am before anything else. Has anyone else lost business over a dumb inbox mistake?

Three years ago I lost a $4,200 contract because an important email went to my promotions tab on Gmail. I didn't even know that tab existed until my buddy asked why I hadn't replied to the client. Now I have a rule where I check spam, promotions, and social tabs before I even look at my main inbox. It's like my email inbox is a messy junk drawer and I have to dig through it every morning.

Man, that stings just reading it... losing a contract over something that dumb has to hurt. I hate how Gmail just decides what's important for you without asking.
