Heard a guy at a conference say flat retainers are dying... is he right?
I was at a small agency meetup in Austin last Thursday and this older agency owner said flat monthly retainers are a thing of the past. He argued that clients hate paying for hours they don't use and prefer project based or value based pricing now. On the other hand, I've got a few clients who love the predictability of a flat fee every month, even if I'm billing less hours some months. So which side are you seeing more of in your agency work, do clients really prefer flexible pricing over knowing exactly what they'll pay each month?
