Client deleted our shared drive 2 days before launch, here's what saved us
We were wrapping up a 14 page site for a realtor in Austin. Friday morning I go to grab the final assets and the whole shared drive is just gone. Client's assistant was cleaning up old folders and nuked everything. We thought we had backups but the last one was from 3 weeks ago. Panic mode. I started digging through my local machine and found an old export folder from our first round of wireframes. It had most of the images and text, just not the final edits. We spent 14 hours straight rebuilding the missing bits from memory and email threads. Launched Sunday night. Client never knew. Now I keep a local copy of everything on a portable SSD, plus two cloud backups in different accounts. Has anyone else had a client accidentally delete work? How do you handle it without blowing up the relationship?

That "client never knew" part is the real win, been there and it sucks but local backups are a lifesaver.
